Program Footprint Across States

Maharashtra

LeapForWord began its journey in Shirpur, Maharashtra in 2008–09. The program expanded to full state coverage by 2011 across all 36 districts. Using a bottom-up approach, our interventions in Maharashtra are community-driven, with government school teachers across the state voluntarily implementing the program—without the need for regular training or certification. Maharashtra continues to demonstrate the highest adoption rate, along with the highest impact on student learning outcomes, reflecting our strong presence in the region.

Our most recent collaboration with Trent Limited and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has been initiated as a pilot project in 10 JNVs in Maharashtra, under the Trent Scholar program. The objective of the program is to provide additional assistance in formative grades (6th – 9th) to develop English capabilities through Reading, Spelling, Comprehension and Sentence structuring.

Chhattisgarh

Full state operations began in the year 2021-22 in Chhattisgarh, in collaboration with the Nihar Shanti Pathshala Funwala initiative by Marico Ltd. and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) from 2021 to 2025. In AY 2025-26, we are working in the state using a voluntary engagement approach, reaching out to teachers who are interested and value the impact of the ELP upon students’ English learning. We are exploring collaborations with DIET (District Institute of Education & Training) for the training of teachers registered in D.El. Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education).

Bihar

In Bihar, we follow a bottom-up approach where interested teachers voluntarily participate in the ELP, reflecting the need for an English-focussed program in the state. This marks the third year of our work in the state, as we continue to transform the lives of students and teachers alike. Bihar participated for the first time in WPC in the year 2025, a significant milestone, where all the rounds were conducted online via Google Meet.

Rajasthan

We have initiated a different approach in Rajasthan, where we have incorporated the ELP into a community-based initiative through the Teacher Entrepreneur project. Here, the ELP has been introduced as an after-school support program for rural students, by empowering educated youth to work as community educators; helping them secure some financial support while fulfilling the larger agenda of enhancing English proficiency among students.
